The purpose of a logline is to outline a plot. ?This sets up a situation for a plot. ?But it doesn’t present a plot.

What specifically is the major conflict that drives the plot? ?As a result of returning home to care for his sister, what becomes the poet’s objective goal? ? Why must he do whatever he’s got to do now? ?What’s the urgency, the stakes?

Checkout the guidelines under “Training” as well as the recent post by Richiev with some excellent advice on fixing common logline problems.

      What DPG said.

Also it would help you in future to think of characters in terms of motivation and action, good characters MUST achieve something for a reason – they are their pursuit of their goals.

In the context of this post, what was the event that made him have to take care of the sister now? This event, or inciting incident, should be mentioned at the start of the logline.

What does him being a poet have to do with the story? Maybe his mother cut him out of the family because of his “unconventional” career choice and after ten years calls him to come and see his sister?
