Suspecting their cop neighbour of killing and eating children, a couple, new in town, set out to prove it – during his New Year’s Eve party.

I like it. At the end during his New Years Eve party what makes them want to prove it then? Is it a big event for the town to attend to lure the children there? You can also omit it and at at stakes at the end. Like their child would be next.

Honestly – I thought perhaps a dinner party? I mean this thing soon becomes very one room and similar to “ROPE”.

    I thought…

I.I. suspect neighbour is a serial killer (still need a better I.I.)

PP1 – they choose to investigate as more children disappear.

MP – New Years Eve party.

PP2 – woman is trapped in his basement compartment with skeletons.

    CC – not sure.

I liked the setup though. A couple with a criminal past, wanting to start again. They move to a cop neighbourhood – I thought perhaps they’re in the witness protection program.

They definitely have a dark past – and why would these upstanding cops trust a couple people who are so disreputable.

If there’s a theme: appearances are deceiving.

It’s that we never quite know what goes on behind closed doors. Behind that white picket fence. What could be more horrifying than finding out that decent, upstanding citizen (your neighbour) is a serial killer.

What sets the story in motion?

You say they suspect their neighbor of killing and eating children, but there must be an event that causes that belief.

Unless it would take up too much word space adding the specific inciting incident to the logline will help clarify the story.

Hmm. Good question. I wanted to encapsulate the I.I. with that first line.

I think I’ll do a rough (small) outline for this one. See what’s there.

I thought the ending – there’s more than one cop in on it. Also, our couple has a criminal past and were outsiders from the start.

I kind of want to do something very Hitchcockian with this one. It’s still a horror though.

Imagine living next to John Wayne Gacy and no believes you.

Also – I wasn’t sure whether to give them a child – I know that would add stakes.
