Thanks Nir… I’ve been pretty excited with all the brainstorming notes I have on this one. And yes you have some very good questions. Nothing is set in stone and there is definitely room to shuffle this one around until I find something solid. Thus far here’s my angle.
The memories of each felon are erased so they don’t have any unfair advantages when they go into the prison. Everyone on the outside watches the show and knows the rules .
A man wakes in the desert prison, Its all being televised worldwide, unknowingly to the new comer. His memories are erased. His initial goals are to find out who he and where he is… This comes through drip feeding new characters who have been in there a while and understand the game. It doesn’t take long for him to work out the system rewards him for each kill they make (to keep ratings pumping – the viewers of this time love to see convicted criminals wasted). Rewards start off small from food packs to water to knife to bullets to gun to optional memory packs to video message from the outside) to motorcycle to car and eventually real estate and protection and for the seasoned killer the ultimate reward—- A public vote for a Pardon based on his actions in the hostile environment. The viewers have become so removed/desensitised from the reality of what happens on the inside that they can tell an evil killer apart from a good killer.
The only way for this guy to survive and reach his goal of proving the innocence he feels ,is to kill and kill plenty then hope for .
So to answer your question of the audience (you and I) caring about him I guess my thoughts were to be on the journey with him, not know knowing who or where he is and to watch this driven man put the pieces together with a sense of dark humour and relatable responses to his environment.
Behind the scenes the world is actually running out of criminals so there is a twist to this story. An underground operation which realease(untelevised) certain inmates into the community to commit murder and set people up so theres a constant flow of crims on the loose. The system is not only insane its corrupt as hell.
    Maybe too much information

NO it's nothing like The Running man. After hours of brainstorming my concept the last two nights I was kind of disappointed it sounder similar when in its shortened version. Why I am talking to myself.

Re feeback about wording of “psychological experiment”. I do agree it is vague and before you even commented I’ve been trying to think of somehow making it clearer without being too wordy. Getting a logline to under 25 words can be more challenging then writing itself at times.

“Her” is his friend as in “pay his friends ransom” and that’s why he now has to “get her back” using alternative means as he didn’t end up getting paid for the experiment so now cannot pay her captors for her safe return. Fortunately for him as a result of the experiment he has ninja skills for the next seven days before they begin to fade from his subconscious. ( He either saves her in that time or hunts down the experimenters to get a ‘top up’)
To give a little more info about the experiment he is strapped into a chair by unorganised and inexperienced uni students and exposed to many images which are embedded into his subconscious. (I hear someone thinking -this smells like A Clockwork Orange) Perhaps… But Alex De Large was never a Ninja.
    Thanks again.
